Vietnam Motorcycle Tours with Chi'sWheels — guided motorbike tours and rentals

Rules differ by region. In northern Vietnam tourists generally ride with an International Driving Permit plus their home licence; elsewhere a Vietnamese motorbike licence may be required. The bigger question is insurance — always check that your policy covers you before you ride.

Bao Viet and Gras Savoye Willis are the largest insurers in Vietnam, but they don’t cover riders without a Vietnamese motorbike licence — and getting or converting one is complicated and slow. Ask us about your options before you book.

All meals are included and we happily cater for vegetarians; drinks are not included. Expect fresh local food — phở, bún chả, nem — at roadside stops along the way.

We send you a packing list covering riding gear, personal and emergency items. Extra luggage can be stored at our office, and luggage transfer can be arranged at a reasonable cost for Ho Chi Minh Trail rides or tours that start and end in different places.

Choose hotels or homestays. Hotels in remote areas are small but have the basics; bigger towns have 3–4 star options. Homestays — often traditional stilt houses — are licensed by local authorities and provide private sleeping mats, blankets, mosquito nets, fans and clean bathrooms.

There’s no strict deadline, but places are limited and bookings close when all guides or bikes are taken. Most riders book 3–6 months ahead.
