Motorbike Holiday North Vietnam – 11 Days

Departing from the western suburbs of Hanoi at around 9:00 AM, we’ll ride our motorbikes southwest on the highway.

After about an hour on the road, we’ll reach the countryside, where the motorbike holiday truly becomes exciting — riding along rural roads, enjoying the lush green scenery, and meeting friendly, smiling locals.

The afternoon motorbike journey to Mai Chau Valley will definitely be one of the highlights of this Northern Vietnam motorbike trip. We’ll arrive in Mai Chau at around 5:00 PM and stay overnight in a local Thai family’s homestay.

After breakfast and saying goodbye to our Thai host family, we continue our motorbike journey with “Chi’s Wheels Motorcycle Tours” toward Phu Yen.

Although the route is shorter, it offers plenty of scenic stops for taking photos and visiting local ethnic minority villages. The ride includes a visit to the Moc Chau Plateau, famous among Vietnamese travelers for its vast, lush tea plantations. In the afternoon, our motorbike tour follows a route along the beautiful Da River.

This exciting second day of our Northern Vietnam motorbike adventure ends in the quiet town of Phu Yen at around 5:00 PM, where we check into a standard hotel.

For many motorbike riders around the world, Northern Vietnam offers some of the best routes for motorcycle travel — and the route from Phu Yen to Than Uyen via Mu Cang Chai is one of them.

Today’s ride is everything you could hope for on a motorbike trip in Vietnam, with breathtaking terraced rice fields along the way. There will be plenty of stops for taking photos and meeting friendly locals.

This promises to be one of the best motorbike journeys in Vietnam. We’ll arrive in the town of Than Uyen and end this amazing riding day at a hotel around 5:00 PM.

This is another wonderful day of our motorbike trip in Northern Vietnam. This short ride to Sapa offers stunning views of mountain peaks, vast green tea plantations, and the majestic Fansipan summit. The journey will take you across O Quy Ho — one of the longest and most beautiful mountain passes in Northern Vietnam.

You’ll have the chance to capture breathtaking mountain scenery at an altitude of around 2,000 meters above sea level. Riding a motorbike on this famous pass is always an incredible experience, and it’s truly one of the best motorbike tours in Vietnam.

We’ll end the ride in Sapa in the afternoon, then spend the rest of the day exploring Sapa on foot or simply relaxing in town. Overnight stay at a hotel or guesthouse (optional).

After breakfast in Sapa, they will depart from Sapa to the other side of the Hoang Lien mountain range. This area also offers stunning mountain views with even more terraced rice fields. The day’s motorbike ride is mostly on smooth roads running along the Chinese border, passing through rustic villages and beautiful terraced fields.

We’ll finish the fifth day of this Northern Vietnam motorbike trip in the small town of Bac Ha at around 4:00 PM. Check in to a standard hotel in town.

Today’s motorbike ride to Ha Giang will offer you a completely different experience. The route includes more off-road riding options and gives you a new perspective of the mountains compared to what you’ve seen before.

In addition, the ride through Hoang Su Phi can give you one of the most breathtaking views of terraced rice fields if you visit at the right time. It’s truly worth being here with your motorbike. This could be the highlight of the 11-day Northern Vietnam motorbike adventure.

Ha Giang – Northern Vietnam is always one of the best choices for a motorbike trip in Vietnam. Famous for its vast, stunning karst plateau and vibrant, friendly ethnic communities living around it, Ha Giang and the Dong Van Global Geopark are a must-visit destination for motorbike travelers at any time of the year. Each season offers a different kind of beauty waiting to be discovered.

This motorbike journey around Ha Giang will be the most remarkable part of the long Northern Vietnam motorbike adventure. We’ll end the day in the heart of the karst plateau — the small town of Dong Van — at around 5:00 PM. Overnight stay at a hotel.

Dong Van is not just a place to rest; it’s also an opportunity to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of this ancient town, surrounded by breathtaking geological wonders and the rich heritage of the local communities. After breakfast, we can take a walk around Dong Van Old Quarter, enjoy a delicious cup of local coffee, or go for a longer walk up a nearby hill where the French once built a fortress. We’ll continue our Northern Vietnam motorbike tour at around 10:00 AM, enjoying more of the wild beauty of the karst plateau.

The motorbike ride from Dong Van to Bao Lac crosses Ma Pi Leng Pass, which will surely offer you breathtaking views of the rocky mountains. The afternoon ride features fewer rocks but more lush green mountains. We’ll arrive in Bao Lac town at around 4:30 PM. Check in to a standard hotel in town.

After a simple breakfast in Bao Lac, we’ll continue our motorbike ride along the Gam River, passing through rustic villages filled with vibrant local children. After about an hour of smooth riding, we’ll head onto steeper roads and begin an amazing off-road motorbike adventure in Vietnam.

The route mainly winds through beautiful terraced rice fields and peaceful villages. We’ll arrive at Ba Be Lake around 3:00 PM, then take a short boat trip on Ba Be Lake — the largest natural lake in Vietnam. Overnight stay at a local Tay family’s homestay.

After breakfast with the Tay family, we’ll continue our Northern Vietnam motorbike tour to Thac Ba Lake — the largest man-made lake in Vietnam. Today’s ride to Thac Ba Lake is easier than the previous days, with perfect roads passing through rice fields and vast green tea plantations.

It’s a short but interesting ride, enriched by fascinating stories from Chi’sWheels’ experienced tour guide about Indochina and the Vietnam War as we stop at Tan Trao and Dinh Hoa. In the afternoon, when we arrive at Thac Ba Lake, we’ll take another short boat trip around the lake dotted with countless small islands. Overnight stay at a Dao family’s homestay.

After saying goodbye to the friendly Dao hosts, we’ll enjoy the final day of our journey.
